Forum: GratefulDead Subject: One of the weirder show anniversaries (JGB)

I have to say, the 8/11/84 JGB show (Caldwell, NJ) has to be one of the weirder experiences I've had (for many reasons):

The suburban setting, with residents staring bug eyed at the scene from their doorsteps

The guy who jumped up on stage and through the drumkit (I think that's what happened)

The women's college they played at

The bus ride from NYC(long story)

Robert Hunter's mostly Amagamalin Street focused set

On the other hand, a good time was had. How cool to see Hunter and Garcia on the same stage (if not at the same time). I distinctly remember the trance-like jam during Dear Prudence... incredible.

Sorry...no link to the show.

I wasn't in NH, but the 14-minute 8/13/84 Rhapsody in Red has to be one of the all time bests.

Hey Morning Dewd, I had a feeling you might reply, given that we're from the same "era"!

I remember that one. That idiot knocked over the drums and cut the 2nd set short, only three or four songs, and Jerry called it a night

agreed - although the drum crasher did make for a short show it had it's moments, right from the good Cats Down Under opener, a pretty rollicking Rhapsody in Red; others I remember but not in order; Simple Twist, Mission, Midnite Moonlight.

The better show was the next one in Moosic, Pa - under a tent. Anybody remember that one?

8-10-84 is from Mossic, PA. 8/12, 8/13, 8/15 & 8/16 are some of the best Garcia shows around. Gotta love any show from Good Skates Roller Rink. The audience recording are all A+.

so PA was before Caldwell? I could have sworn it was the other way around. And is the roller rink the same thing as the ballroom (NH) the other poster is talking about? I'm very confused as always - did he play 4 nights at the same roller rink?

PA was 8/10. Caldwell 8/11, 8/12 & 8/13 were in Club Casino NH and 8/16 was at the Roller Skating rink in Setauket NY.

thanks for the anniversary prompt, going to give it a spin right now; this show was my first live Jerry/GD experience, and it was definitely an interesting show; i went solo since i didn't really know anyone else into Jerry at that time; when i finally got the chance to relive the music, some 22 or so years later, you can bet i was ecstatic, and the music did not disappoint; as for the shortened 2nd set, it wasn't really shorted by much since Jerry in '84 generally didn't play more than 5 or 6 songs per set, and often just 4 as in the Caldwell show
